McLeod: How do you make diversity work?

After the publishing of my first column in this series, a broader conversation was ignited about diversity and race as this city works to create the persona of “a new Auburn.” Auburn is a city of twin history (personified by Harriet Tubman and William Seward), rich traditions and a new arts and economic renaissance. It wishes to present an “open for business to all” feeling to welcome a new multicultural tourist market poised to embrace Auburn’s black cultural icon by visiting Harriet Tubman’s new national park and even bringing new breath to the arts igniter that is the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival.
